The impressive hall is the place where the lord of the manor received ambassadors and knights and exercised justice and command.
It reproduces the hall of the Manta Castle of the Lords of Saluzzo, Cuneo: theirs is the motto “LEIT” (which perhaps means “gently does it”) repeated on the painted plinth and in the cartouches on the ceiling. On the right wall are depicted Heroes and Heroines of antiquity who guide the work of the lord by their example; opposite is a legend widespread in courtly culture – that of the Fountain of Youth.
The throne canopy is the only 19th-century decoration left in the room. This was entirely destroyed during a bombing raid in 1943 and faithfully rebuilt in 1950-1951. The paintings on the walls are the work of Francesco Chiapusso,1950 and are replicas of those painted in 1884 by Alessandro Vacca.
